SUICIDE BY POISONING.
WELLINGTON, Last Night. William Johnson, a married man, a very old resident of Wellington, land well known in building circles, was found dead in bed on Friday. He rented a room in Hopper Street. His wife is visiting England at present. He had bean in bad health lately, having suffered from gastritis, and it is stated that lie had been worried over money matters. Two friends went" to his room and found him in bed quite dead. A bottle, which had contained prussic acid, w.a.S lying by. At the inquest yeterday a verdict was returned of suicide, while of unsound mind.
STREET FATALITY
WELLINGTON, Last Night,
James Joseph Martin, an expressman, died in the Hospital yesterday, as the result of injuries received through falling from an express on August 4tli.
INDECENT POSTCARDS.
OHRISTOHURCH, Last Night. Walter .Nicholls, a youn-k .man, appeared before Mr Bishop, S.M., yesterday,, charged with having sold indecent postcards in *a railway train. He pleaded not guilty. The accused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment.
FROZEN MEAT SHIPMENT.
CHRISTCBURCH, Last Night
The New Zealand Shipping Company has been advised that the Paparoa arrived at Plymouth yesterday, with 80,000 carcases of mutton and lamb from New Zealand.
