SUGAR STRIKE

SYDNEY, August 11
Tho sugar strike is quiet, pending the decisions of tho Brisbane Conference.
The steamer Gabo has arrived from Newcastle. Her general cargo is being unloaded, but sixty tons of sugar, wlu'eh is aboard, will remain untouched.
COMPARISON OF PRICES

MELBOURNE, August 11
Mr W. M. Hughes, referring to' the rise in the price of sugar, said the Prime Minister of Now Zealand had informed him that the price of No._ 1 sugar in New Zealand was-£ls 15s, and No. 2 £ls 5s per ton. against £22 10s 6d and £2l 17a 6d in Australia, the seller in both cases being the Colonial Sugar Refining Company. The Australian public were able to see the possibilities of this lucrative business. Seeing that tho prices were six'pounds more here than in Now Zealand, he would want to know the reason -why.
