EUGENICS.
The subject of eugenics, i.e.,_ the propagation of the human species on a healthy basis, is .claiming the attention of a good .many public men and sociologists in all parts of the world. In jSew Zealand we have established -an- Eugenic Society, and its propaganda is being disseminated .broadcast. Unhappily, however, the social and other conditions obtaining in this country do not encourage the hops that much good work can be. done, at least for years to come. It is very -well 'to talk 'of the ■elimination of the unfit bj* a process of discrimination in marital relations; but it is useless to expect a permanent improvement of the ■species until the social conditions are such that .maternity will be regarded an the most .sacred dispensation of God rather than the fiendish creation of the devil of drudgery.
