MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING

! The monthly meeting of the MasIterton County Cauncil was held yesj terday, thero being present Crs. W. J. Welch (Chairman), A. Murray, D. J. Cameron, D. W. Foreman, R. F. R. Beetham and J. MiUer. An apology was received for the absence of Cr. Kebbell. The consent of the ratepayers interested was received to a. loan of £IOO for the formation and metalling of the Maweka. Road in section 110, block 4, Tiffin Survey District. A letter was received from the T. j E. Taylor Memorial Committee soli- i citing contributions to the fund.—The letter was laid on the table. Tha Secretary of the Wairarapa Employers' Association wrote, inviting Councillors to be present at an address, to be delivered by Mr •W. Pryor. Secretary of the N.Z. Employers' Federation, on August 11th. — Received. Mr W. H. Clayton wrote, asking that some metal be put down in Chamberlain Street. —It was decided that the matter be attended to when the weather permits.' A letter was received from the New Zealand Counties' Association, notifying that the Conference of delegates of local bodies would be held an August 22nd, and that remits should be sent in by August 16th. The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee was read. The treasurer reported as follows : —Bank general fund account, dr., £2639 4s 2d; local bodies loans account, cr., £2146; accounts, dr. balance, £479 14s 2d. The receipts for the month totalled £2593 17s Od. Accounts amounting to £996 6s 3d were passed for payment. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Cameron, seconded by Cr. Foreman, "That this Committee recommends the Council to fall in with the suggestion contained in the letter received from the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board with regard to the appointment of Mr J. Cairns as a sanitary inspector for the County { on the terms mentioned in the said 1 letter."
