Strong, a young Aucklander, who ( left for the islands a few months ago. t The directors of the Masterton Dairy Company, at a meeting on Saturday, appointed Mr Leonard Wilton to be creamery manager at Rangi- ' tumau. There were only two applicants. Mr Wilton is employed at Mr Donald's factory, Featherston. Mr F. A. Mason, of the Petone | ' v school, and formerly of Kakariki, ' Forty-Mile Bush, has been appointed to succeed Mr J. J. Pilkington as headmaster of the Porirua school. j Lieut. H. E. Hart, of the Carterton j Rifles, who recently sat for his cap- j tain's examination, had the honour of . heading the list of passes for the Dominion. Mr James McGregor, of Masterton, will give a series of addresses in the ! Hutt electorate this week on tho subject of, "No-License in Masterton." . Mr William Redman, who died ab • Konini last week, was a native of Somersetshire, and came to New Zealand in 1885. Deceased resided in Masterton until 1889; when he took up land in the Forty-mile Bush. He was only 46 years of age. i Mr Wyvern .Wilson, who has just been appointed a Stipendiary Magis- j trate, was for some years in practise as a solicitor at Pahiatua. ! The death occurred at Christchurch ■ on July 19th, of Mr A. S. Hardy- I Johnston, M.l.C.E.,'son of the late , Mr Thomas Masterton Hardy-John- | ston, after a brief illness. Meredith; j . -r«f Masterton, is a aster ' " of the late Mr "K«i>ly Johnston. .. ;•';.] Senior-Sergeant Mackirinon, of ; the ' Waihi police force, was.presented on ; Friday night with a purse of fifty sov-r ereigns by the citizens of Waihi, in recognition of his tact and ability in the administration of police matters. Tho presentation was made by the Mayor, in the presence of a large and representative gathering. The sergeant was also the recipient of presents from the police and court officials. Sergeant Mackiimon has been transferred to the Auckland central station. A quiet wedding was celebrated in St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, on Saturday, when Mr L. Gumbley, of Hastings, was united to Miss. M. Robins, daughter of Mrs Robins, of Cole Street, Masterton. Miss N. Robins acted as bridesmaid, whilst Mr Jackson was best man. The ceremony Was performed by the Rev, H. Watson. ■ -Mr Thomas Finiicane, who was for eleven years on the staff of "the Mount -' View and Porirua Mental Hospitals, died on Thursday-after a short and painful illness. The deceased was a V son of the late Mr J. P. Fiancane Wellington, and was born in that city , thirty-three, years ago. • The many friends of Miss Montgomery, jof the Masterton Telephone Exchange, will regret to hear that she is lying reriously ill at her parents' house in South Road with-an attack of brain fever. Two doctors are attending her, and hopes were last night entertained that she Would pull ■ through. ' , i Mr C. A. Poulsen is still confined to the Masterton Hospital and is. progressing slowly towards recovery. Mr A. P; Rawson, who is in the same ■ institution, is still in a very weak ' condition. Two other delegates have to be appointed. Mr William' Perry, of Masterton, gave an address on "Lincoln 3heep" ", before the members of the Dannevirke A. and P. Association last week.
