FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' OBJECTION.
AN AMENDMENT LOST,
(Received Last Night, 5-5Q o'clock.)
LONDON, August 3
Friendly societies regard Mr Addison's amendments to the Insurance Bill as an infringement of their selfmanagement. Sir P. Magnus's amendment excluding earners of £lO4 annually from medical benefits was negatived. Sir P. Magnus said that if accepted the doctors would co-operate loyally. Mr D. Lloyd-George resisted the amendment, which would exclude the industrial population from long accustomed club and medical benefits, but he accepted Mr Addison's amendment giving the local health committees power to fix the salary limit beyond which the insured would make their own medical arrangements.
