Tho death is announced by cable from London of Mr Edwin Austin Abbey, R.A. The friends of Mr W. Redmond, of Konini, will regret to learn that he is lying seriously ill at a privato hospital in Pahiatua. On Monday afternoon the classes of tho To Ore- Ore School assembled in the upper room, when trie scholars read an address to Miss Smith, the assistant mistress, who was that day severing her connection " with the school in order to bo married. # The Chairman of the Committee took advantage of the occasion to address Miss Smith on behalf of the Committee and parents, thanking her for her concern for the children's welfare. He then handed her an entree dish as a wedding gift from the scholars and Committee, wishing her health, hapi piness and prosperity for the future. At a Committee meeting held on Tuesday night, the members placed on record their high appreciation 'of the satisfactory manner in which Miss Smith had carried out her duties in i connection with the school.
