AUSTRALIAN PREFERENCE

The Minister of Customs has decided to allow preference only on goods wholly manufactured in the United Kingdom, instead of on goods, 25 per cent, of whose finished value is represented by the wages of British worlsmon. The reason for this change is that wages constitute so low a proportion of the value of many articles. BUTTER IN CANADA. By Telegraph — Tress Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister for Industries and Commerce, has received advice that through the failure "of'NewZealandshippers of butter to comply-with the requirements of the Canadian Customs Department, importers in Canada have been put to considerable expense and annoyance. The Canadian Customs officers have, ' owing to the failure of exoortOTs in this respect, been compelled to exact "general" instead of "preferential" tariff rates on many importations. ".• Copies of a specimen form of invoice approved by the Canadian Customs for goods sold by an • exporter prior to shipment may bo seen on application to the Director of Commerce, and Tourists, T.ublic Trust Buildings, Wellington. .
