Bates, of the Meteorological Office this evening issued the following summary and forecast:— /A '.south-easterly gale and heavy rain has been reported to-day from Clap© Campbell and Blenheim, but variable wind 3 and cloudy ' and :changeable weather ihia-ve in tihe North. The'iharbmeter has risen rapidly. . No reports are available from the East Coast southward of Kaikoura, owing to telegraphic interruption. , . •i'<-~-' j Present'indications are for cold, cloudy and unsettled .weather generally. Rain as probable in most parts of the, country. Southerly asnd easterly winds, strong to gale, are proba'ble generally, and a very unsteady barometer.
