The remains of the late Mr H. P. Wynn-Williams were interred in the Masterton cemetery yesterday afternoon. Despite the Wretched weather, a considerable number of friends of the deceased gentleman paid a last tribute of respect to his memory. The ceremony at the grave pcrmormc;! by the Rev. ' Mr Pryqr Gilbert; who has, been - compelled. ..through failiijg health (to "relinquish his position ?as'train, ref)tte-: sentative of the Wairarapa Age, which he has filled for over five years past, was presented by the staff of the paper on Saturday with a handsome travelling rug. The presentation was marde by Mr James Brown, who expressed the hope that a rest front travelling would restore Mr Gilbert, to perfect health. Mr Gilbert acknowledged the gift in appropriate terms, stating that his association with the Age and its staff had been an exceedingly pleasant one.
Mr W. H. Cook, one time, of Masterton, who has received the appointment of Town Clerk and Engineer to the Borpugh of Hastings, was presented by a handsome gold watch by the Commercial Club of IJetone. priorto his. departure for Hawked Bay'. ' : Mr W. H. Judkins, the well-knowh temperance advocate of Melbourne, who some years ago conducted an auctioneering business in Masterton, has been compelled to undergo a .severe surgical operation, and his condition is reported to be serious. He has had to cancel all platform and pulpit fixtures.
Mr John Reid, who has l>een a resident of tlie Manawatu district for over forty years, died at Awaihuri on Friday at the age of sixty-seven years. Mr George Luxford, accountant and agent, of Palmerston North, met wifely a motor bicycle accident on Saturday, by which he sustained a compound fracture of the leg.
Mr William Rawson, . a very old resident of Dannevirke, has died at Taihape at the age of seventy-four. Mr A.-W. Hogg, M.P., proceeds to Wellington to-day for Education Board business and the opening of the session.
The death is announced by cable from Sydney of Mr Rennie, ex-Audi-tor-General for New South Wales.
