ARGUMENT FOR THE DEFENCE. \ (Received Last Night, 9.30 o'clock.) SfDNEY, July 20. In the Vend case, Mr Mitchell, counsel for the Shipping Companies, stibmitted that if, from the nature of a contract, it was considered a reasonable one, it was not for the Court to inquire whether the result was to raise the price of coal. Regarding the words ''detriment to the pulblic" there must be something real and. substantial before there could be an offence under the Act.
