CARTERTON.
Mr !R. Ellison, London agent of ■the National Da.iry Association, is to meet the suppliers of the various dairy factories in, the district this afternoon, at Carterton, to discuss matters of general importance to them. *
Mr J. Bowers", who has resigned the managership of the Parkvale Dairy Company's factory, is taking up farming pursuits at Ponatahi. At a meeting of the Belvedere School Committee on Monday evening the •headmaster's report showed a roll number of 58. It was decided not to observe Arbor Day as a holiday on account of there being no tree planting. Among the commissions- Ithat have been issued from the New Zealand Scout headquarters are Mr F. W. Roydhouse to be Scout Master for Carterton, and Mr Horace Woodley instructor in inusic.
The Foresters and Oddfellows meet this evening in the Carterton- United Friendly Society's card tournament.
The Carterton Literary and Debat-j ing Society had a splendid attendance at their meeting on Monday evening, when a Parliamentary election took place. There were ftvr candidates standing in different oauses, Mr B. Roberts, as Independent Labour, topping the poll. A very pleasant euchre party i nd social was held on Monday even! under the auspices of St. Mark's Church, and passed off very pleasantly. A number of vocal items wero contributed by several present, and the ladies provided an excellent upper, to which full justice was done. Another social will take place in three weeks' time. A good deal of interest is being taken in the tournament to be on Thursday evening, under the :u spiees of the Carterton centre of the Wairarapa Boxing Association. The residence occupied by Mr J. McKenzie, in, High Street, navrmvly escaped destruction by fire on Mon day evening. A ispark from a fire in one of the bedrooms set to some bedding during the temp >'-ary absence of the occupant, and was only discovered when it ;tad a fair hold. A resident passing plong in>tioed the trouble, and rendered Mr MoKenzie assistance, and the fl»m>e. were got under control before much damage had been done.
