IMPORTANT RESOLUTIONS. By. Telegraph, — Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. At the Raoi/ig Conference to-day, the Stipendiary Stewards' Commits tee submitted a suggested new rule providing for the appointment of stipendiary .stewards. Mr Nolan, moving to this effect, said they must make racing more palatatble. The President said the carrying of the motion would make the appointments mandatory. Several country members expressed the opinion that they should ascertain what the proposal would cost country oluha. Mr Samuel anoved as an amendment ;fchat a stipendiary stewards' committee be elected -with power to appoint stipendiary stewards provided that no part ox the expenses incurred would fall on the Club whose meeting was unattended by a stipendiary steward. Sir George Clifford expressed the opinion, that the appointments should Be made, as .besides keeping the sport clean, it would give the public confidence.

Mr Samuel agreed to withdraw from his amendment the provision concerning clubs where stewards did mot attend, and Mr Nolan then intimated his; wiHingnc&s to give ivay to the amendment. The Hon. J. D. Ormond supported the proposal strongly. On (being put to the vote the motion was carried," but as a threefourths majority was required to carry a motion of the kind it was declared lost. A Wanganui remit urged the appointment of a committee to consider the advisableness of establishing a New Zealand Jockey Club. This was withdrawn, on the Conference appointing the following committee to consider the constitution of a conference for the government of racing generally and the feasibility of improving same:— Hon. J. D. Ormond, Hon. E. Mitchelson, Messrs Samuel, McVay, .Bid-will, Nolan, Guinness, and Friedlaaider. The following were appointed a dates committee:— Messrs Friedlander. (chairman), Abbott, Goodbehere, Miller, McVay, and Hood-W*l-liams. . , The conference closed with the unanimous re-election of Sir George Clifford to the Presidency.
