It was stated that thirty or forty members of Parliament had given their assurance that they were prepared to do justice to ciubs adversely affected by the Racing Commission's report, and that there was a strong feeling of resentment .through the country at the number of 'dubs proposed to be wiped out. It was also stated that the Commission had flouted the intention of Parliament and violated the Act. Sir James Carroll said the supporfc- | ers of the sport should have taken | a bold stand long ago. He agreed that Parliament intended country clubs to have special consideration. He was glad the question had assumed an acute form, for he had for years been 'trying t-o impress on the sporting -world tie dangers ahead, I and could never strike a note of rej spouse. It would have been wise ( had some Court of Appeal been pro- | vided. As for the Government, it could not now stultify itself by ask- ] ins; Parliament to amend the law. Personally, he dcd not think there y.-a,& too much racing in New Zealand. What they wanited was regulations for proper control, to remove the vices attached to the-sport, and to assure that everything was fair 1 and above board. In conclusion, he I said private members could introduce a Bill, land the Government could facilitate the matter 'jeing gone into.
