SIR JOSEPH HECKLED.
The report of the proceedings at the Imperial Conference 'has. been, published. This shows, so the cable tells 'US, that Sir Joseph Ward was beckled over bis proposal to set up an Imperial Council of Defence. The contemplation of such a proceeding is humiliating, not only .to the friends of the distinguished Baronet, but to every elector in the Dominion. Even the conferring of a hereditary title in recognition of the Dreadnought gift cannot obliterate the memory of .the unpleasant denouement which followed the submittimg of a. scheme •which, was as vague and imperfect as ilb was bewildering to those it was unfolded.
