MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held yesterday afternoon, there being present Crs. W. J. Welch (Chairman), J.. W. Foreman, J. Miller, D. J. Cameron, A. Murray and E. Beetham. Roadman Revell wrote, complaining of injury to the Blairlogie road through heavy traffic by William Cobb, waggon driver. The Advances to Settlers Office advised the remittance of £995, being the second advance on account of the £3OOO loan for the northern approaches. - The District Railway Engineer notified the Council that instructions had been given to clear the willows from 1 the railway reserve at Kopuaranga, and drawing attention to willows on the other side of the river on Mr Miller's property.—On the motion of Cr. Cameron, the matter was left in the hands of the Engineer to attend to. R. L. Satchell and others asked that stops bo taken to relieve their properties from the accumulation of flood water at Lansdowne. —The r-ni-ter was referred to the Engineer fv.- i report. Messrs A. H. Herbert and Co. wrote in reference to an alleged breach by them of ihe wheel-tyre by-laws, stating that the tyres of their vehicles had been altered to meet the by-laws. The Valuer-General forwarded form of application for the subsidy for 1910-11. The Public Works Department ini vited applications for road grants. [ Roadman Patrick reported an alI leged breach of the wheel-tyre by-laws by A. H. Herbert and Co.—The'Clerk stated that the breach referred to the back wheels of a vehicle, but theso had been altered when attention had been drawn to them. Mr R. D. Morrison forwarded in- ] formation concerning his claim for J labour and horse-feed supplied. [ The Public Health Department forwarded a circular, covering regula- I tions relating to precautions against [ plague. The Under-Secretary of the* Public Works Department forwarded a copy | of a letter received from the Castlepoint County Council re items objected to in the claim for main road maintenance. The Secretary of the New Zealand Counties Association notified that the annual Conference Avould be held in Wellingtoii during the approaching Parliamentary session.. The Publio Works Department forwarded authority to expend £99 10s on the Kiriwhapapa road. Messrs Tuxford Bros., asked the Council to apply for a grant for a bridge on the Glenlean road. The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee was read. The Treasurer reported a debit .on the : local Bodies Loans account of £2146. The receipts for the month amounted to £1237 0s 6d. Accounts nmoumirig to £1560 3s lid were recommended for I payment. A list of applications for Government grants was approve 1 The consideration of the grants for the Alfredton Riding was held over. The Clerk was instructed to ask the Masterton Borough Council for a definite reply with reference to making a conJ tribution towards the cost of the Columba road crossing.—The report was adopted. The Chairman was authorised to affix the seal of the County to the plan for the sub-division of the Matahiwi Estate. The Engineer was instructed, on the motion of the Chairman, to have the willows cut on the County's reserve at Kummer's bridge. The report of the Engineer for the month was read and adopted. J
