CASE FOrf DEFENDANTS. ARRANGEMENT WITH SHIPPING COMPANIES. (Received Last Night, 9.30 o'clock) v SYDNEY, July 11. Mr Knox, counsel for defendants, occupied the whole of to-day'© sitting in the' Vend case, and he was not yet concluded when the Court adjourned. He argued that when coming to an agreement with the Shipping Companies, the colliery proprietors had. in mind the general preservation of the industry and uniform selling and hewing rates, also that some of the shipping companies had interests in certain, collieries. He .assumed that if no arrangements were entered into it would favour their own collieries in the carriage of coal.
