A MARTINBOROUGH CASE. Int. bhe Magistrate's Court at Marttnborough' yesterday, before Mr L. G. Read, S.M., Charles Brewer, licensee of- the Martimiborough Hotel, was charged with two breaches of the licensing Act in having kept Ma (premises open for the sale of liquor on Sunday, June 25t3i, and having exposed liquor for sale on the same date. Sergeant Miller, of Masterton, who conducted tlhe prosecution, called evidence to show that three men had been found at the slide of the. bar on, the date in question", with liquor infront of them. The defence was that the (men had assisted in plucking poultry during the day, and had been asked to have a* drink. His Worship dismissed both inforanationo. The tiiree men involved in the case •were fined 2s 6d and costs each., for Ibeing found on licensed premise® durum prohibited hours without reason-* able excuse.
