ATTEMPT TO EXPLODE SUBMARINES. SENTRIES OVERWHELMED^ (Received Last Night, 10.10 o'clock.) PARIS, July 10. A daring attempt was made to explode the submarine mines defending Toulon. A Quartermaster noticed that the door of the chamber, containing electric wire used for firing the mines, was open. He tried to enter, but was unable. When the door was forced, two men rushed out and overthrew the Quartermaster. A fierce struggle ensued. Sentries followed the men, who finally escaped in a waiting motor car containing closely-veiled women, and vanished in the darkness. The sentries will be severely punished for not using their rifles.
