I | AN INTERESTING SUMMARY. i Following is a summary of the civil .business transacted in. the Masterton Magistrate's Court during the quarter ended June 30th, 1911: Number of cases heard by Stipendiary Magistrate, ordinary jurisdiction 192, extended jurisdiction • 7, total 199. Aggregate amount sued for, £1632 10s- Id, aggregate amount (recovered £568 10s 4d'; number of plaints entered 148, numlber of distress warrants issued 7, number of judgment summonses issued'2l, number of orders made on judgment summons 11, number of warrants of issued 4, number of writs of arrest issued nil, number of .'summonses and other processes served by the bailiff and assistants within two males 115, 'number of summonses and other processes served .by the ■bailiff and assistants over two miles 43, number of distress warrants exeI outed by the bailiff and assistants withi ntwo miles 10. The amount of civil fees parJd in stamps totalled £lO7 Is. The return® of the criminal cases dealt with during the period show | that 74 males and one female were apprehended and . summoned. The amount of ciiminal fees paid in stamps totalled £l3 Bs, while £52 10s was the amount of fines paid in stamps, making" a total of £65 18b. j Twenty-two arrest cases were dealt i with. Three persons, two males and one female, were committed to a j mental hospital. Only two charges o ftheft are on record, and two charges of breaking and entering, and i one of house-breaking, were preferred against on& juvenile offender. There were four convictions for breaches of the peace, one conviction for vagrancy, and one for obscene language. The convictions for drunkenness totalled eight. Fiftyfour summons cases came up for hearing. There was one breach of the Motor Regulations Act, and nineteen breaches cf the Borough By-laws were' dealt with. The charges for breaches of the Licensing Act- totalled fifteen. They included six charges of ordering liquor for No-license district without giving name and address, two charges of keeping liquor for sale in No-license district, four charges of delivering liquor in No-license district which accused had grounds to suspect was intended to .be kept for sale, one charge of selling liquor to'resident of No-license distract without isending notice t» Oerk of Court, and two charges of storing liquor in a. No-license disr v trict. One male offender was convicted of assault under the Justices of the Peace Act, and there was one conviction for obscene languagt. Four .stock dealors were fined for having exposed lousy sheep. Under the Education Act four parents were fined for failing to isend children to school, one case wais withdrawn, and two were dismissed. A Native was convicted and fined on a charge of failing to .destroy raihbits on his land. An illegitimate child was committed to the Recdevirig Home. A defendant was (Sentenced to one month's imprisonment for failing to comply with, an order of the Court to maintain his illegitimate child, and two cases against a female defendant for failing to maintain her, child in the industrial school were withdrawn.
