FARMERS' DEFENCE COMMITTEE.

AND THE RATE FOR SHEARINC. A'meeting convened by the Fanners' Defence Coniimittee is, to be held iii Masterton to-morrow, to discuss the question of the rate for shearing for the coming season. It will he remembered that last year an award was made by the Arbitration. Court, fixing the minimum rate of pay for shearing sheep at 19s Gd iper hundred. When this award was decided upon, most of the owners in this district had employed their shearers* for the season at £1 per hundred. The, question now to be considered is whether the award .rate of lfls 6d per hundred shall be paid, or whether owners will continue to ipay £1 per hundred, which as understood to be the lowest rate at which Union' shearers will engage to shear.
