MASTERTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the General Committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held on Saturday last, in the Association'!? offices, there being present, Messrs W. Perry (chairma u), G. C. Summere.ll, J. C. McKillop, R. J. Dagg, W. H. Buick, E. C. Harper, H. J. Dagg, E. J. Perry, T. P. Lett, A. J. Percy, R. Gray, A. G. Pilmer, J. P. Perry, J. M. James, G. H. Shaw, Bland Rayner, Q. Donald, O. C. Cooper, W. Cooper, W. J. Welch, D. McGregor, junr., D. Caselberg, J. Strang and H. Morrison. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs C. F. Vallanoe and JB. Moodie. The report of the meeting of the subcommittee appointed to deal with the secretaryship was read. It was recommended that Mr J. B. Einmett be appointed acting-secretary, in the absence of Mr G. R. Sykes, on leave, at a salary of £ls per month.—The report was adopted. The chairman reported that he had attended the Conference in Palmerston North, in reference to the ap- . pointment of Committeemen from this Association on the Manawatu Association. The chairman said he had not pledged the Association to anything. He did not think much would come of the movement. The Hawke's Bay Society had also stood out. A suggestion had been made that country committees be appointed, similar to those of Masterton. —No action was taken in the matter. In answer to a question the chairman stated that a remit had been framed and sent to the Agricultural Conference, favouring the formation of a Royal Society. It did not follow, if such a Society were formed, that Royal Shows would be held. There other useful work that such a society might do. j Mr Frank Moore, of Bushy Park. Ka-i Iwi, -notified his intention to pre- i sent the Association with a sih'er rose bowl (valued at twelve guineas) to be allotted as a points prize for fat cattle. , His own stock is not to compete for the trophy.—The announcement of the gift was received with applause, and it was decided to write to Mr Moore, thanking him for his generous offer. Messrs Arthur D. Riley and Co.. importers, of Wellington, forwarded information concerning telephone ma-1 terials, which they were prepared to supply.—The letter was referred to the Private Telephone Association. Mr D. H. Rait, M.R.C.V.S., wrote, asking permission to lectur-e before the Association, on the subject of diseases in stock. —It was decided that Mr Rait' be informed that Ins offer to deliver a lecture be accepted, and that the lecture be given on the evening of Jul? 29th, a charge of one shilling to be made for admission. A letter was read from. Mr H. V. Fulton, of Wellington, stating that an effort was being made to form a Clydesdale Horse Society for the Dominion, and asking for the support of the i Association in the matter. It w-as also asked that delegates be appointed to attend a meeting to be held in Dunedin in August.—Mr Donald thought the movement a step in the right direction. He could not see, however, how they could do much in the district to assist the movement, as there were so few breeders here.—On the' motion of Mr Donald, seconded by Mr \ R. J. Dagg, it was decided that this i meeting favours the formation of a Clydesdale-Horse Society, and extends its jsuppprt to the movement." The secretary of the N.Z. Producers' Association r.otified that a meeting of the Association would be held in Wellington on July 15th, to consider the question of approaching the Government to ask for legislation to put the Association on a legal footing, with power to raise money for its management, and to 'discuss the question of increasing the number of committees in other parts of the Dominion. The Secretary of the N.Z, Producers' Association forwarded a circular letter, covering a report received from Mr F. J. Shelton, the Association's representative in London. Mr Shelton stated that he had opened an office in

SmithnclH, and was moving around quietly to educate himself as to the position. He stated, inter alia, that "everything is teing done to destroy the efforts of the New Zealand farmers who produce and deliver from the freezing works there a fair article in good condition. Building bricks receive more careful attention here by those handling them than does the frozen mutton and lamb." Mr Shelton further stated that he had interviewed the London dock authorities, and had been courteoucly received. He suggested that mutton and lamb he packed in Hessian sacks, in addition to the calico covering. He.would like to see an experiment r/.nde in this direction. He also suggested certain improvements in regard to the" branding of carcases. He affirmed that the statements made by Mr W. D. Lysnar in regard to the handling of mutton at tho London ports had been more than confirmed by his own observations. —Tho communication was received. Mr C. B. Pharazyn, who has left New Zealand, wrote, tendering his resignation as a member. —Received. The Pahiatua-Alcitio Association advised that its next Show would be held on Friday, February 9th, 1912. The secretary of. the Egmont Association that its show would be held on November Bth and 9th; Marlborough intimated that its show would take place on November. 14th and 15th, Stratford on December 6th and 7th; and various other shows at different dates. GROUND COMMITTEE.

The report of the meeting of the Ground Committee was read. The caretaker reported that certain pipes had become blocked, and it was decided to ask Mr Cooper to rectify the same. The Railway Department submitted plans of the Kuripuni Siding, and a proclamation in reference to the taking of 2 acres, 31 perches under "The Public Works Act." It was decided that the Railway Department be asked to change the name of the station from "Kuripuni" to "Solway." It was resolved to make a donation of £1 Is to the Horticultural Society in recognition of the loan of vases, etc., for the show. —The report was adopted. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee was read. 'Messrs W. Perry and W. J. Welch were appointed to wait upon the local stock firms concerned with a view to collecting the amount due in connection with the railway siding. Jt was decided to write 5 per cent off" the As-ociation's assets for depreciation, and £lB 10s 4d off plant and office furniture. The balance-sheet, as read, was adopted, and it was decided to have it printed and issued to members. Mes-rs W. Perry and G. C. Summerell were authorised to prepare the annual report. —ln moving the adoption of the report Mr Summerell stated that the result of the year's operations was very satisfactory. The show itself disclosed a loss of £3B, but on the year's operations generally there was a credit of £2OO. The assets of the Association now stood at £6971 12s sd, which was £ISOO more than the assets of last year. It had bten suggested that something might be done in the way of cutting down the prize-list. This, however, was a matter for the Finance Committee. He had pleasure in moving the adoption of the report. Mr D. Caselberg seconded, and endorsed the remarks of Mr Summerell. The Chairman said ho was surprised and pleased at the result of the year's operations. —The report was adopted. SCRUTINEERS. Messrs G. R. Sykes, A. H. Vile, G. and B. Iveson were appointed'scrutineers for the annual election of a General-Committee.
