Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., and Mrs Hogg are going on a few- days' visit to the Auckland district. - Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P., and Mr A. H. Herbert were present at the Hospital Ball in Masterton on Thursday evening. They did not, therefore, occupy seats on the platform at Mr Massey's meeting in Wellington, as has been stated. Mr W. F. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, informed Mr A. H. Herbert, who was in Wellington on Thursday, that he would' be pleased to deliver an address in Masterton-if invited. J An old colonist in the person of Mr George Buckeridge died on Thursday in Kawhia, after having attained his 80th year. Mr Buckeridge emigrated to New Zealand in 1855, and was connected at first with the Nelson Examiner, one of the first newspapers in the Dominion, as managing foreman. Sir Maurice O'Rorke has been reappointed a member of the Legislative Council for a further term of seven years. Mr W. Pryor, secretary of the Employers' Federation, is on a visit to the South Island. He will be away for a fortnight. Mr Thomas Middleton, one of the pioneer settlers of Southland, died on Tuesday in Invereargill, aged 96 years. In the early days Mr Middleton was a lay preacher in the Wesleyan Church. The death i& announced of Mr J. T. Boylan, of Auckland, at the age of 93 years. The deceased was for many j years a prominent business man in | Auckland, and occupied various pubt lie offices. [ The Hon. T. Mackenzie will be present at a "Liberal" social to be -held at Dalefiekl on Tu( sday evening next. Mr S. Bolton, Chairman of the Pahiatua County Council, - has announced himself as an Opposition candidate for the Pahiatua seat, states a Press Association message from Pahiatua. A Sydney telegram states that the Rev. Mr Richards, an Anglican clergyman, dropped dead while travelling in a tramcar. Mr F. N. Penny, of Paeroa, has been appointed Secretary of the Manawatu A. and P. Association from 113 applications. These were reduced to three—Messrs Penny, H. F. Gibson, of Oamaru, and Mr L. W. Hanley, of Christchurch. Of these, Mr Penny was chosen at a special meeting of the Association' 1 ' Finance Committee yesterday. The funeral of the late Nireaha Tatriaki is to take place at Hamua to-morrow. A cable message from Sydney announces the death of the Hon. J. Macintosh, member of the New South Wales Legislative Council, at the age of 91 years. The Leader of the Opposition will deliver an address in Christchurch on Tuesday evening next. The numerous friends of the Rev. J. T. Phillips, of Tenui, will regret to hear of the death of his infant son Gwynne, which took place yesterdaj. The funeral is to take place to-morrow afternoon. > 'Mr James Greenaway, who died at ■ r the Napier Hospital, at the age of 93, L came to Napier in the early days with ( the 65th Regiment and afterwards resided in Woodville for 25 years. Mrs K. J. McLennan, of Pahiatua, is a daughter of th-3 deceased, who left a great number or children and grand--1 children.
