DISTRICT NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondents.] TE WHARAU. Heavy rains have been experienced hare for the greater part of the past two weeks, leaving roads generally in a 'bad state -for travelling. From a farmer point of tow, however, the rains have done good, as evidenced by the abundance of feed and the general look of the country. Several members of the newlyformed Te Wharau Boxing Club were present at the Masterton Tournament last week, azid were duly impressed by the displays of the various contestants. This Club intend. sending a team to the forthcoming Carterton Tournament. Toe Te Wharau Bdfle Club held its annual meeting last Saturday, when the usual election of officers took place. Mr Reg. Veunell was appointed .secretary, and ishould ensure success for next season's shooting. The Rev. L. Thompson, of Carterton, conducted Communion service, at Te Wharau on Sunday last. On Tuesday Mr Lees, of the Technical School, held his fortnightly wool-classing class. There was a j good attendance. The Coronation passed quietly at Te Wharau, the wet weather spoiling the fireworks display arranged by Mr E. S. Venn ell, and otherwise preventing citizens from showing their loyalty by the usual demonstrations. ■ Although the middle of winter, and a quiet time amongst farmers, work is stall fairly plentiful in the district, fencing, scrub-cutting, rabbiting, etc., supplying work ' for a good number of men. Mr M. J. McGregor, of Hikorangi, has been appointed Commissioner of the Te Wharau School, the householders having failed to appoint a committee. Mr McGregor and Miss McGregor and Mr W. B. Presliaw have left for Rotor ua.
