SPURIOUS DEMOCRATS.
In the course of comments on titles accepted by alleged Democrats, the Temuka Leader remarks: —"Nothing is to be gained by joining those who are denouncing Sir J. G. Ward for 'accepting a baronetcy, and distributing other titles amongst _ bis friends. We merely wish to direct attention to the difference between true and spurious democracy, and then bend our head in adimira/tion of the way in which Sir Joseph Ward has played his cards, and used the people of New Zealand to suit his own purposes. We have frequently and urgently pointed out for the last few years, that this country was governed not on democratic but on pure bureaucratic lines. A democracy _is a form of government under which the will of the people is given effect to; a bureaucracy is that in which a few govern regardless of the. will of the people. •
