MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting ot the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening, there being present,— His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradin o), Cr.s. A. Donald, J, Prentice, :'. -. Ewington, W» Pragaell, W. Candy, F. W. Temple, J. Elliott, and H. J. O'Leary. Tlie abattoir .manager (Mr A. D. Gillies.) reported that during the? month the cattle slaughtered was as follows: 128 cattle, 13 calves, 665 sheep and lambs, and 120 pigs. The aggregjate charges for the month amounted", to £4 14s Bd. The cattle slaughtered included 41 bullocks, 47 maiden heifers, and 40 cows, and the number of sheep was made up of 254 wethers, 76 maiden ewes, 315 ewes, and 20 lambs. Following are the returns submitted by the Poundkeeper for .the month of June:— Animals impounded: From within the Borough, 7 horses and 11 cattle. From outside the Borough: Two horses. Total, 20. Released.—9 horses and 11 cattle. The fees amounted to £2 13s. A oommunioation- wasi trece' ed from G. H. Perry and Co., as" >.ig permission to erect an oil'.store on the site which the Council had decided to provide free of cost.— The request was granted, and the engineer w&s instructed, tq locate the' position for the building. The Coronation Celebrations Committee wrote stating that the receipts of the recent concert amounted to £23 Bs, and the expenditure to £3O Is 6d, and asking that the Council meet tfe, difference,- It was decided to balance the account. Plans were submitted for a building in the Park for the Coronation Memorialr—lt was eventually decided to adopt a plan prepared by Mr M. R. Varnham, and to forward a copy to the Government to be approved. The Borough Engineer imported that the cost of forming a. footpath in Cornwall Street from Powaiall Street to Tararua Street, of a width of 9ifit, would 'be about £3O, and recommendied that the amount be taken out of the £3OO passed in the estimates) fior mew works. Or Temple admitted that it would be a considerable convenience, but lie understood that the 'price was very high. Cr O'Leary said the Conn-cdl had quite as many roads as Lt could maintain, and that it ought to wait until the .ratepayers demand the connection. Cr Ewington -seconded the motion, which was canned. Crs Donald and Temp]'' were appointed to take steps to collect a large .number of outstanding gas accounts.
