FAILURE TO ENROL. (By Telegraph—Press ; Association.) - W'ELLINGTON, Last Nigfot. Tfhe adjourned case in which a youth named Arthur Davis was charged under tie Defence Act of 1909, AU-th. failing to register Ms name a,s a Territorial, came .before Dr McAmt'hur, S.M., in the Magistrate's Gburt this morning. Davis pleaded guilty to the charge on Failday, and the Magistrate gram-ted an adjournment until "to-day,, in order to give him a further chance to register. When Davos' name wa.s called there was no response: The defendant nx>t hiavilng put in an appearance, His Worship said it was quite evident xthat Davis wa« defying the Court, and though he. would not impose the ,maximum .penalty, he would fine him £3, with costs 7s. ' "I want it known/,' isaid His■-Worship, "that in oases like this coming before the Court, the offenders will ibe treated with the utmost severity of the law." Before the business of the Court had been concluded, Davis appeared/and informed the Ma.gistr.aite that hie had filled, up a registration form on Sunday, and his father liad posited it on Monday. A territorial officer, however, said the paper Quad not yet been received by the Defence Department, and the Magistrate granted a further adjoiimmient until 2.15 this afternoon. Before vacating the Bench Dr McAntihur advised, Dajvis to obtain another form and fill it in at once and deliver it personally to the Department. This afternoon the Magistrate was informed that the defendant'® mnolmeiut papers had come to hand by this morning's mail. Accordingly the defendant was duly convicted and drischairged.
