KING GEORGE V.
. » LETTER TO THE PEOPLE. HIS MAJESTY PROFOUNDLY TOUCHED. (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) LONDON, July 1. King George has written the following letter: — "My people, now that the Coronation, with its attendant ceremonies, is over, I desire to assure the people of the British Empire of my grateful sense that their hearts had been with me through it all. I felt this in the beautiful, impressive service in the Abbey—the most solemn I have experienced in my life—'and Wrcely less in the stirring scenes of the succeeding days, when my people signified their recognition and heartfelt welcome to me as their So'ver- , * eign. ;It was apparent that there was not only loyal enthusiasm on--,Coronation Day.in progress in the different districts of London, but there were also thousands of messages of goodwill, which bad come across the seas from every part of the Emv. pire. Such affectionate demonstrations have profoundly touched me, and filled me afresh with ■faith and confidence." His Majesty adds:— "I believe the generous, outspoken sympathy with the Queen and myself is, under God, our surest source of strength. I am encouraged to go forward with renewed hope. Whatever perplexities or difficulties might be before me, my people, we shall unite, facing them resolutely and calmly, and with a public spirit, confident that under divine guidance the ultimate outcome wall be for the common good."
