and the masterton club. Question of amalgamation. At the.meeting of-Stewards of the MJasterton Racing Club on Saturday •last, the question of the reduction in totalisator permits from four to three, as recommended by the -Racing Commission, came up for dis•oussion. The chairman (Mr Pownall) stated that a one-day meeting would be of i A; no use to this Club. .The decision of «4>he Racing Commission opened up a ■» very wide question. The Club would jave to decide whether it should not with the Taratahi-Oar-terton Club for one meeting, and have two days. •Mr Macara: How about Carterton? -Mr Plowjiall: They are in the same boat. Mr Pownall proceeded to •state that the Taratahi-Carterton Chib could hardly be expected to forfeit its racing. Mr Moodie thought they should consider the position from the point - of view of both Clubs. They must also consider the tradesmen, of the town when fixing their dates. The Secretary pointed out that the Racing Commission had recommend~ed that the Taratahi-Carterton Club should coalesce, to race over the < Masterton course. # | Mr Pownall stated .that, ih view j of this, they , should approach the > lferataha-Oarterton Chib in the matMr Reside stated that the Presi- | dent of the Club (Mr Vallance) had instructed him to say that he was desirous that a further £IOOO should be raised, with a view to improving I the appointments on the course. Mr j Vallance had himself offered to find £SOO. i The chairman said the question of improvements was a subsequent matter. They should first consider whether they should consult Carterton in the matter. Mr Macara stated that a deputation from ( the Tarataln-CaTterton Club was going to interview the Minister. HC did not think much good would come of this. The Chairman did not think they should wait to see if any concession , could be obtained; They should meet* the position, as it had arisen. Neither Club could afford to race on -sr. one day only. tiV Mr McLachlan suggested that the Taratahi-Oarterton Club should be left to approach Masterton. The chairman said it might then' 'b.e too late. They should not cut off their nose to spite their face. Several members agreed that they •should meet the Taratahi-Carterton Club on' amicable terms. After some further discussion, Mr J. B. Moodie moved, "That a special meeting of this Club to fix the dates of racing be held on Saturday, Sth July, at 2.30, and in the meantime 1 . a Committee of this Ohib meet a ■ Committee' of the Taratahi-Carter-ton ißacing Club, to discuss the question of combination :Eor the extra day, and that the secretary make arrangements for that purpose." Mr Macara seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr McLachlan' pointed out that Masterton was entitled to the BoxJ"~ ing Day date. Several members expressed the opinion that Boxing Day would not be available, as it would clash with - the Manawatu meeting. A sub-cofmnnittee, consisting of the > .Presiden*,. Messrs Pownall; ; Moodie, v 'and the secretary, was appointed to meet a subcommittee of the-Tara-tahi-Carterton Club. Mr McLachan thought this Glub showing a weakness in approaching the Taratahi-€arterton Club. The chairman and other members disagreed upon this point. It was decided to advise the Tara-taihi-Oarterton Club of the decision 'of this Ohib, and to intimate that, while the Masterton Club. considers it has. a prior claim upon. Boxing Day, it does not wish to discuss the question of dates until after the:, conference between the two Clubs. 1 .
