WAIRARAPA RACING.
The Masterton Racing Club has done the right thing in approaching the Taraitahi-Oarterton Club with a view to amalgamation. It is quite clear that the intention of the Racing Commissioners was that there should { be one' Grub only in the North "WiaiI rarapa, and one in the South, Instead of pursuing the same course in regard to the Taratahi-Carterton Club as they did in respect to Pahia■feua and Lower Valley, however, the Oommi'Sisioners have tried an experiment which may prove disastrous. If Carterton and Masterton fail to agree, and each holds a one-day meeting, both will inevitably suffer a heavy financial loss. It would be better if an amalgamation could be atrivediaifc, even if the terms involved the holding of a two-days meeting alternately at Masterton and Carteri ton. While Masterton undoubtedly j holds the key to i the situation, it |T must act in a generous; spirit, recog- • nising that a good deal of its sup- \ port comes from the Lower Valley. I -
