SEAMEN'S WAGES

I CONFERENCE OF SHIPOWNERS. A PROPOSED INCREASE. (Received Last Night, 9.40 o'clock.) LONDON, June 29. At a conference attended by one hundred shipowners of the United Kingdom, it was decided that a moderate increase in wages might be given at certain ports. In view of the present trade conditions, the conference recommended the Shipowners' Association to fix a standard of wages for the respective districts, and to advise the Shipping Federation to extend its functions so that they might include wages disputes. It was unanimously decided to oppose the recognition of the Sailors* and Firemen's Unions.
