VALEDICTORY.
FAREWELL TO REV. W. RAINE. There was a large attendance of members' at the St. Matthew's Club last- evening) to hid farewell to the Rev. W. Raine, who te leaving today for Wellington. In' a brief though appropriate speech, Mr W. Purcell eulogised the good work done by tihe Rev. Raine during his term in Masterfcon, and in ; .preseniting him- with a , silvernioun'fced case,; of. pipes, cigarette case, and tobaccos pouch, on behalf of; tthe MJowwmemlbefiis,. wished him every stioceas in. Ms new sphere. Mr Raine suitably responded, and advised the members to-work together inl furthering the, suooeas of tihe Club. Mr F. Truscott also referred to Mr Raine's sterling qualities, and stated ithat it was impossible to keep the club up to its present standard, but they all would do their best. Messrs C. dole and N. Boyd endorsed the remarks of the previous Speaker. Light refreshments were handed round, and the social was brought to a close with tihe singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
