BREAKING GAOL.
A SENSATIONAL ATTEMPT. PRISONER FATALLY SHOT. (Received June 27, 9.35 a.m.) HOBART, June 27. Henry Cooper and William Buckney made a sensational attempt to escape from gaol. A warder fatally shot Cooper.The men were working in the shoemakers' shop, and, during the temporary absence of one of the warders, they climbed the iron bars to the roof. A warder named Driscoll called upon them to surrender, but the men took no notice. The warder then fired in the air, but they still took no notice. .The warder then shot Cooper in the body. * The other man, Buckney, seeing his companion fall, went frantic with rage, and savagely attacked the war der, but he was overpowered. Cooper died shortly after. This was his third attempt to escape. One he was succes ful for a few days.
