CAPITAL PUNISHMENT.

The recent execution of a Native boy in New Zealand has provoked a vigorous denunciation from Press and pulpit of the barbarous gallows. The recently-installed Bishop of Auckland, after quoting England's past (record, says:—"l draw attention, to tthese facts in order to ask the people of New Zealand to realise the long way we have travelled since the ,18th, century. I shall indeed be surprised if we do not now see the last and most enlightened .step in progress made, and capital punishment, for ever abolished from our Statute .Book." Dr Wad dell, one of our leading Presbyterian, ministers, is equally emphatic, while a number of legal men, both in the north amid isouith., have entered their protests against the continuance of the death penalty.
