MASTERTON FIRE BOARD.
I ANNUAL MEETING. j The annual meeting of the Masi terton- Fire Board was held in tlhe I office of the secretary (Ma- R. [ Brown) yesterday. There were present.—'Messrs 0. N. 1 C. Pragnell, J, I 0. Ewingiton, J. P. Preaitice, J. M. Goradine, R. M. Simpson, C. R. | Smith, and R. J. White. I The secretary read the notices of appaintmemt and election of members, and then invited nominations for the office of chairman. Mr Simpson moved, and Mr Ewington seconded, the re-appointment of Mr Pragnetll. There were no othw/nominations, and Mr Pragnell was- declared elected. ( Mr Pragjnell, on taking the'chair, thanked the members for the honour they had bestowed t on hiiti, and he also welcomed the ,new members on the Board, all'of whom suitably acknowledged the welcome. An-.offer; lirom Mr H. J. Jones to fill and charge the, accumulators, of the electric fixe alarm system a/t Is 6d each, charge wias accepted. The seal of the Board was authorised to be. fixed to an agreement with respect to the right-of-way. Mr Prentice reported that the new feed house and workshop, etc., had been satisfactorily completed .at a cost of £53 17;s 6d. Captaiin Dixon, of tlie Fire Police, submitted the following report:—The amount required for expense® during the current year is small compared with, last year, and we have to thank the custodian (Mr Stewart) for the careful attention he hia® given to the plant and material placed under his. charge, and Mrs Stewart for her kind attention to the four members of my corps who are sleeping on tihe Board's premises.. A few week® ago several tetters appeared in. tike daily papers which ware Hat complimemtary to my . corps. I desire to point out to the Boarfl that tlie members of the corps, besides attending at fires, put in 234 attendances at the Town Hall, and 3*ll at the Foresters.' Hall. Ittie meetings of the corps, and also tihe practices have, been well attended, whilst tlx© aVerage ' attendance at fires has been 11 out of 16. Tlhe report was adopted. The- annual report of Superintendent Jenkins, was read and adoptted. A numiher oi small matter® arising out of tihe report; were left with the local members to deal ,witih, including the improving of the ringing of the fireball. The estimates for the year -.-ere drawn up. The. total estimate" expenditure was £1023 I9s, from v. 'violi the Government contribution of £SO is. deducted, leaving £973 19s, onehalf of which is payable by Hie Mas- • tertian OQuncil and k the other ;lMf /'by 'ifhe'-'fimilraftee ■ Obmpafaiesi. v -. The total premium income received by the' Insurance Companies* last year amounted to £5349 18s 7d, being £l2B 6s 6d less than tlie previous year. ' ,
