In a recent issue of the Age, the public was warned against the jewellery fiend, who goes from door to door selling ru'bhisii. on the time-pay-mmt system, and preying upon 'the susceptibilities of weak-minded w{>meA. Thiis. wanning appears/to have upset the equilibrium of somebody in Wanganui, who. has written our local contemporary, saying nasty things about the Age. Out contemporary lias very courteously tended us the letter, which threatens the Age with all' sorts of penalties if at makes "any more of these sweeping assertions about reputable houses." Tlhe Age made no reference to "reputable houses." It referred to the fond who goes from door to door intimidating nervous women. The local authorities', in- this connection, 7 owe a duty to the public. - They should at least- see that hawkers are . licensed, and that licenses are granted only to those who represent \ rej 'putahle firms.''
