TOTALISATOR PERMITS.
The Racing Commission appears to have dome its work ; tolmiMy well. It hasi reduced; (the number, of totaiisator permits considerably, and has made certain important recommendations. So far as the country distriicts iare concerned, there is some ground 'for cT|Lsisatic£action. They appear to have 'been .sacrificed in the interests of the Metropolitan Olubs. Why the Pahiatuia Club ishould have been robbed of its permit most pefopie willl fail to understand. The wiping out of the bookmaker robbed that district of its Hunt Olub meeting, and mow its totalisator meeting is to go. The reasoni is inexplicable on, the face of it. The, loss of the Lower Valley meeting was isomewhat expected, but that Masterton and Taratahi-Oarterton should have lost a day each is .most regrettable. There will he isome awkward questions asked in the House when the report comeis up ffior discussion. .
