NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.
THE OPENING DAY. (By Telegraph—Our Special Rer porter.) PALMERSTON N., Last Kight. The 'National Dairy Show. was opened in Palmer st on. to-day by Lord Islington. The weather was line, and the arrangements'- generally satisvaetary. The attendance Is. hardly up ti t]>:-,t of previous years, but, with >;i promise of fine weather, it is likely to improve. His Excellency t - !ie (-Werner, in his address, expressed pleasure .-;. athaving been afforded an opportunity of visiting Pa'lmerEto't), and the trusted that arrangements' for the Hum*' mer Show would; be such '.that' he .would be able to attend. He- alluded to the value of the conference held, and the good work being don-e ■in connection with agricultural experiments at the schools. He also made allusion, to the necessity for having central dairy factories worked on co-operative lines. Finally, lie congratulated Palmereton on its shmv.
A number of visitors are present from the Wai para-pa and Forty-Mi-le Bush.
In the horticultural and agricultural division, Mr R. J. Dagg, of Ma-sterto-n, won tlie principal prize in tlie farmers' classes for seed* and grain.
Mr H. Evans also took a number of nrizes.
