HOLIDAY IN PALMERSTON.
(By Telegraph-—Press Association.) PAIiMERSTONN., Last Night. The Half-flioliday Association today dealt with, the holiday question at a largely attended meeting of business men. After considering the various awards respecting the "KoKdays, it was J deeddfed to cloise aj|l Coronation Bay, but to remain open throughout Wednesday and Friday, lb - liad previously been decided to close from 12.30 to 3.30 on Friday, June 30th, 1 for the Sheffield Choir matinee here. It was explained that previous motion- had. been; passed on the understanding thatthe orchestra and choir both came here, and. a® they were now informed that Dr Hairiss would not bring his orchestra to Palmerston they considered that the resolution to olos© had been earned on a false- xuiderstainding. It was therefore reconsidered, and it was unanimously resolved that the shopkeepers keep open only on the understanding that the concert to be given by the Sheffield Choir is both vocal and instrumental, and as it has since been decided .not to send the orchestra the shopkeepers decline to close unless the management adheres to the promise given by the local, secretary, Mr J. 0. Lane. Mr.Nash, Mayor of Palmerston, who is chairman of the Qeutre; Committee of *the Sheffield Chop:,, saw -IVfe. Gwlitz. orb, this matter on, Saturday. Mr Gorlitz, cabled to Dr Hairiss at Sydney, and this after- : noon, telegraphed to the Mayor that j Dr Harris s' reply, was imfoviQuraible - to bringing the orchestra to : stoii. .
