OFFICIAL ASSIGNEES.
The Daanevirke Chamber of Commerce is voicing a very general desire when it says, that Official Assignees should be men of business ability with a thorough knowledge of accountancy. The Daauievirke Chamber goes a little too far, however, when it suggests that the law should be &o altered that or editors in a bankrupt estate might be able to appoint their own Assignee. There are many reasons why such a change is undesirable, the ahief of which aire that it would open the door wide to corrupt practices, and would result in endlless wrangling and controversy ait meetings of creditors. If the Official Assignees are at present not qualified for their positions, the proper course to adopt is< for Chambers of Commerce to make direct representations to the upon, the subject.
