KAURI TIMBER.
COMPANY'S HALF-YEARLY MEETING.

MELBOURNE, June 15
At the half 7 yearly meeting of the Kauri Timber Company, the chairman,, in declaring a dividend for the ha&f year at the rate of 8 per .cent, per annum, ireferred to a statement made art a pravioius meeting concerning the falling off of the profits lasij* year, which lie attributed to having cut up a large quantity of inferior logs. He thought that in future, tlhorugh , there were still some of the same logs to dear up, their influence on the output would be a diminishing one. The figures for the six months showed that Ms anticipations were being realised. They were now in a position to keep the 'mils supplied with a better averaged of logs. In anticipation of the exhaustion of the kauri bush, which, ,\vas not in, tlie very distant he' said it had been tlie policy "of the Company for some years past' to strengthen their interest's in other New Zealand timbers, with a. view to pratracting the life of the Company. Tlie recent rains in New Zealand, had brought down a supply of logs, enabling them to 1 start some idle mills and keep going for a few months. Business during the past six months had been very active, and sufficient orders were on hand to lead one to expect the turnover for the year to be considerably in excess of last year.
