MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
ENGINEER'S REPORT. The. following is the engineer's report read at yesterday's meeting of the Masterton County Council — OPAKI RIDING— Kiriwhakapapa Road. —(Govt. Gt.): I have made a survey and submitted plans for approval for 17 chains of road formation. Black Creek Road.—Contract No. 249: Building a 27-feet span bridge and approaches. The above work was completed last month and is still on the contractor's hands for a month's maintenance. The improvement conceded to the Council by Mr Gawith in respect to the alteration of his fences at the acute corner on the Upper Plain and loop-line has been effected. | The necessary metalling and cul- | verting has been done. The work has materially lessoned the risk of oollisI ion at this point. Railway Road. —Contract No. 256 : . Forming 64 chains, metalling 19 chains of road. —The whole length has been formed in the rough, and the contractor is finishing a short \ of tho formation in the Northern end "or the purpose of giving access to the Railway Station. Northern Approach.—Contract No. 237 : Bridge building.—The non-de-livery of portions of the timber necessary for the understructure has check ed the contractor from making better headway. Contract No. 23&: 26 chains of formation, etc. Fair progress has been made with the formation since last meeting.
Carrerthen Street. —Contract No. 266: 6.33 chains of formation and footpath has been let to Mr I. Allen, who undertakes to proceed with the work immediately. *
Upper Plain Road.—Contract No. 263: 43 chains of footpath let last month will be proceeded with forthwith.
Matahiwi Road.—Contract No. 258 : Delivering 875 cubic yards of ~metal has been completed. Waingawa to Camp Road :—Contract No. 252.—The delivery of .1000 cubic yards of metal has been finished. In consequence of the river setting in to the Southern bank the concrete wing approach is in jeopardy of being undermined, and requires immediate attention. It will involve the expenditure of about £l2. TE WHITI RIDING.—
Repairs to the Masterton-Gladstone and Manaia Roads are being effected. Weraiti-Fernyhurst Road.—Contract No. 256: 178 chains of metalling, ■ ( —This work has been taken off. the .contractor's hands. There has been in addition 327 cubic yards supplied by the contractor at schedule rates, blinding and improving weaker portions of the road.
Protective works to "Waingawa,— A small groyne is necessary on the northern bank between the road and railway bridge for the protection of the willow planted bank. The cost will amount to about £lO.
RANGITUMAU RIDING Te Ore Ore-Bideford Road.—Contract No. 262: Delivering 395 cub. yds. of metal for repairs. The work is in progress. It has been necessary to cover the roadman's whare with iron, the shingles having become perforated. , Bluff to Rangitumau Road.—Contract No, 261: Delivering 385 cbuic j yards of metal for repairs.—This con- | tract has been in progress since the j 31st ultimo. ,' | UPPER TA UERU RIDING.— , | Glendonald-Wairere Road.—Con- I tract No. 250 (Govt. Gt.) forming J 68.37 chains of road. The contractor j has been, on the ground for over a fortnight", t and he reports gqod pro-' gress with his work. \ Mangarai Road. —Contract. No. 248.—40.36 chains of formation and culverting. The work was reported completed by the contractor, and requires inspection. Tanglewood Road. —Formation and metalling. The winter season is too far advanced for carrying out this work, without doing extraordinary damage. I would recommend that the formation ,be, done and the metalling left till spring. ;' ■.'■••; v. , j; , WAINUIORU RIDING.— MastertonrWaimata Road.—Taueru to Mangapakeha section.—Contract No. 241: Delivering 1400 cubic yards of metal for repairs, was finished last month. . ' Divers' Corner to Taueru Bridge.— Contract No. 251: Delivering 780 cubic yards of metal was also completed last month. ALFREDTON RIDING Township Roads. —Two culverts 1 and fillings, giving access to the proj perty of Mr George and others have been made.
