BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
TMARU, Last.MgJit. A deputatioß if*'&fß m£ i6eal j>raricii of the Secular EdUc&kidii League waited on the Board of >Educafci*n td protest against a certain proceeding of tike, Ministers! Association, and .the authoraiieg of the Main School. in connection with the Bible lessons introduced iati the town schools last month. The complaint's are .that the school staff is not neut-rat. The usual hour for assembly is 9 a.m., and the Board agreed tfcat it should 'be' 9.30 on Bible lesson days. The deputation showed that the headmaster "asseanlbled" the school in the ordinary way at 9 a.m., and acting as headmaster, had assisted the ministers otherwise, in ,one way iby circularising the parents asking for a note of exemption. The deputation asked for a public notification that the school "assembles" at 9.30 on Bible lesson days, that no letter of exemption be required, that teachers be instructed to iake no part in assembling the children for lessons, and generally to remain meutral. The Board referred the complaints to the committee and ittbe headmaster for a- reply.
