SECRET CONFERENCES.
There is a good deal of mystery attaching to certain organizations which have recently been foregathering in Wellington. The TJabour "Federation has held what it regards as an important conference, and has maintained the utmost secrecy over what has transpired. The N.Z. Alliance has followed suit, and it may be expected that other political movements -will adopt similar methods. The general public, which likes to see things •conducted square and 'above 'board, will presently become suspicious of these secret gatherings, and will show its disapproval at the proper time and place. Meanwhile, there will be a lot of speculation and not a few exaggerated reports concerning the doings of those bodies which sit in camera, and the result may not be advantageous to those most directly concerned. #
