ALLEGED ARSON.

ELTHAM, -Last Night: An inquiry was held to-day, before Mr Kenrick, S.M., touching the i fire on January 23rd, which resulted in the burning down of a- farmhouse belonging to John Robertson* i which'was occupied by him, and a share-milker named Nicholas Albert Miaddern. Robertson had the house and contents insured in the New Zealand Office for- £IBO, the claim being immediately eettled. Maddeni I' also bad a policy in the Guardian I Office for £l6O on his furniture arid effects, including a piano belonging to Robertson, which was already insured. Maddern's claim was not settled, pending the inquiry. The Magistrate found that the house was wilfully set on fire with intent to defraud the Guardian Company. Maddern was subsequently arrested.
