HON. GEO. FOWLDS.

A lot of people run away with the idea, that the Hon. Geo. Fwvlds, who is an .apostle of the "single tax" creed, is opposed to the freehold tenure of land. It need hardly be said that such an idea has no foundation in fact. The very essence of the "single tax" is the imposition of a. tax upon freehold lands. Under the leasehold system there would be no room for such a tax, for the obvious reason* that Orowm tenants escape the direct land tax. The greatest cause for wonderment in respect to itihe Hjom. Mr I'bwlds is that he can be found comfortably ensconced .in a Ministry whose views on the ] lanid question are diametrically opj posed to his own. But then', party I politics makes, strange bed-fellows.
