IMPORTING A CRICKET COACH.
AUCKLAND, Last Night. Mr J. H. Watts lias received a' cablegram from Lord Hawke, re-t commending Mr G. J. Thompson, of Northamptonshire, as coach to the Auckland Cricket Association. The Association have cabled engaging Mr Thompson. Mr Thompson wa•" born on 27th October, 1877, and i therefore in his 34th year. 11l 'f ■ season 1903-4 he was one of the t professional cricketers included i '" Lord Hiawke's team for the N Zealand tour, and did: exceedicn' well. During the last visit of 1.. .- Australian eleven "to England in= 1909, Thompson was selected to play for England, and performed well. He was also a .member of the Marylebone ciucket- team to tour South Africa in 1909-10, and besides howling well, was second only to J. B. Hobbs in the batting averages in the five test matches. In first-class matches during the last English season, Thompson scored 1021 runs (including two centuries), an average of 23.74, and took 129 wickets at an average cost of 17.86.
