MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening, there being present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), Crs. A. Donald, J. Prentice, W. Pragnell, W. Candy, T. G. Hoar, F. W. Temple, J. Elliott, H. J. O'Learv and J. C. Ewington. The poundkeeper reported that during the month fifteen animals from within the Borough, and; seventeen from ibeyond the Borough, had been impounded. Thirty-one were released, and there was at present one animal in the pound. Fees received from within the Borough amounted to £1 14 s 6d, and from beyond the Borough £3 16s 6d; total, £5 lis. The Abattoir Manager's report was read as follows: Slaughtered during the month: 12 calves, 143 : cattle, 180 sheep, 215 pigs. The ! fees received during the month amounted to £ll3 12s lCkl. The Abattoir Manager forwarded a letter from P. C. Jorgensen, in which the latter applied for five weeks' leave of absence. The manager added that he could arrange satisfactorily.— Leave of absence was granted on full pay. The caretaker of the Park wrote, stating thai it would be advisable to remove two trees adjoining the cemetery. Cr Hoar and Ci' Donald held that there were six trees which needed to be out down. Cr Hoar .moved that the six trees be removed. Cr Ewington moved a.s an amendment that the caretaker's report be adopted. Crs Elliott and o'Lea, 17 favoured Cr Hoar's .motion. The amendment was not seconded. On the .motion of Cr Hoar, seconded by Cr Ewington, it was decided that the Abattoir Manager be instructed to classify the ages of the stock slaughtered when presenting h.i& report. Cr Hoar, in speaking to the .motion, said that he thought iit was only right that the people should know what they were eating. A committee consisting of the Mayor, and Os. Temple and Ewington, was appointed to bring down a report concerning the defining of stock routes within the Borough. A .motion favouring the removal of two pinus insignus- trees outside the main gate of the Park was lost.
