CORONATION FESTIVITIES.
MEETING TO BE CALLED IN MASTERTON. At last night's meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine) brought up the question of Coronation Festivities in Masterton. He said there seemed to be an impression among some, of the townspeople that the .Mayor 'had the pow :r to decide on a certain course, and authorise the expenditure of money without the sanction of the Council. That was not so, and he, with flit Council, had to go into the matter. He suggested •calling a meeting of citizens lor - Thursday next, to consider the matter. • He thought that the Council should guarantee the cost of any necessary printing and advertising in connection with tie matter.
Cr Ewington said he thought it was only right that some nif.ve should be taken in the matter. The Council would only be doing its duty. Several other Councillors agreed with Cr Ewington, and it was < venrua.llv decided to leave the matter in the hands of a meeting to be caileil by the Mayor for to-morrow e-vn-ing. Letters from two local firms quoting prices for the supply of bunting were referred to the public meeting. In connection with the erection of some permanent work, such rs a Coronation memorial,' Cr Tenole submitted a plan of a kiosk, and Cr Prentice submitted a plan of a grandstand and kiosk combined. The Council will have to lecide upon some work, and forward the plan to the Premier in order to get .the Goevrnment' subsidy. After some discussion, the Mayor and Crs. Temple, Prentice and Ewington were appointed a committee to go into the question and rcrnrt at the next meeting of the \mncil.
