THE KING'S BIRTHDAY. CHItfSTUHUIICH, Last Night, j There was nothing in the shape of ! a general holiday in the city on Saturday. Retail shops were in almost every instance kept open, the intention being to take a holiday Monday. Interviewed upon his arrival, Major-Godlev said that he was touring the Dominion to become acquainted with as many citizens as possible, and find out the conditions existing in the various districts, also to see how the work of registration is getting on, and what the prospects are from a soldier's point of-view. "I have found things very satisfactory indeed , so far,"' said the General. "Everywhere everyone seems most enthusiastic about the scheme, and there is nothing but help from all classes and conditions of people.
